About Us

Applied Math Modeling Inc. was formed in January of 2008 as an outgrowth of the acquisition of Fluent Inc. by ANSYS, Inc. The primary mission of the company is to create application-specific CFD modeling tools for target design and analysis markets using new and creative models of delivery and support. The company's flagship product, CoolSim, is a software simulation tool focused specifically on predicting the cooling performance and efficiency in data centers. The unique way in which CoolSim is packaged and delivered to the market makes it easier to use and more affordable than any other tool of its kind.

Management Team
Paul Bemis President and CEO of Applied Math Modeling Inc

Paul Bemis

As the President and CEO of Applied Math ModelingPaul Bemis brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team with over 30 years of involvement in the high technology market. Paul's unique background and education provides an exceptional basis for the pursuit of new and creative ways to solve complex engineering simulation problems. With an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (UNH), and graduate degrees in both Electrical Engineering, and Business (Northeastern), Paul is well positioned to understand both the technical aspects of product development and predict the market opportunity created by changes in technology. While at Apollo Computer Inc. and Hewlett Packard Inc., Paul was heavily involved in the development and market success of high performance RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) based multiprocessor systems used in markets ranging from high energy physics to automotive and aerospace design. As the Technical Server Business Line Manager at HP, Paul gained extensive knowledge in the application of HPC systems in leading-edge markets such as medical imaging, structural mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, seismic interpretation, and automotive design. His subsequent move into the software industry as the Vice President of Marketing for both ANSYS and Fluent continued to expand his knowledge of markets and opportunities in the engineering simulation marketplace. Today Paul is applying all of his experience and knowledge to the CoolSim product line, which works to break the ease-of-use and cost barriers that have constrained the widepread use of CFD-based modeling in the data center design and analysis market. Paul is a member of the ASHRAE TC 9.9 and TC 90.4 Technical Committees that focus on data center environmental and energy specifications respectively. Paul is also the President of the New Hampshire Granite State ASHRAE Chapter.

Cliff Peaslee

Cliff Peaslee is the Chief Architect at Applied Math Modeling, responsible for all aspects of application design and development. Cliff brings a broad set of unique talents to the development team at AMM. As the lead developer on the CFDPost product at ANSYS, Cliff gained valuable expereince in the field of large-scale scientific postprocessing. His direct involvement in Fluent's FloWizard product provided an excellent foundation for how to develop, build, and deliver a CFD-based engineering tool to a mass audience. Prior to this point, CFD analysis tools where simply too complex and difficult to use for widespread deployment. Cliff received his education in the field of Computer Science (UMaine) and has experience in the fields of rich interactive GUI design, high performance graphics, internet collaboration software, and large scale object-oriented applications.

Board of Directors
Dr. Bharatan Patel. Prior to his appointment to the board, Dr. Patel served as Chairman of the Board and CEO of Aavid Thermal Technologies after holding the position of COO and president. Dr. Patel came to this position after Aavid acquired Fluent, the company he founded in 1983 to provide modeling and analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer phenomena to a variety of industries. As CEO of Fluent, Dr. Patel grew the company from its inception to become the premier computational fluid dynamics (CFD) provider.  ANSYS, Inc. acquired Aavid in 2006.

Dr. Hasan Ferit Boysan. Dr Boysan was the Vice President and General Manager, Fluids Business Unit for three years in charge of both Fluent and CFX operations at Ansys Inc. Prior to joining Ansys, Dr. Boysan was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Fluent Inc. He became Fluent’s Chief Operating Officer in 1997 and President in 1999, after having been Managing Director of Fluent’s European Operations since 1991. Dr. Boysan was one of the original developers of Fluent's CFD software at Sheffield University in the UK in the early 1980s when he was a postdoctoral research fellow. Dr. Boysan has a PhD degree from the Technical University of Istanbul, Turkey and an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from the University of Sheffield, UK.

Dr. Dipankar Choudhury. Dr Choudhury is the Vice President of Research at ANSYS Inc. where he leads advanced technology and exploratory R&D projects. Prior to taking this role, Dr. Choudhury was responsible for ANSYS Inc.'s product strategy and planning and corporate product management functions. Dr. Choudhury obtained his Ph.D. in the area of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer from the University of Minnesota in 1987. After his graduation, Dr. Choudhury held engineering and product management positions at Creare Inc. and Fluent Inc. where he was the Chief Technologist. He is a member of the ASME and the AIAA and has technical publications in journals, conference proceedings and trade magazines.

Peter Christie. Peter Christie retired from Fluent where he served as its Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since 1998. From 1984 to 1998, Mr. Christie held several senior management positions, including President and Chief Financial Officer at Verax Corporation, a bioprocessing company. Prior to joining Verax, Mr. Christie was employed at Creare Inc., an engineering consulting firm, where he held the position of CFO from 1973-78 and President and Founder of Creare Products Inc., a medical instruments manufacturer, from 1978 to 1984.
