Applied Math Modeling Releases CoolSim 5.2

Enhanced Data Center Design Optimization Software

New version boosts performance, usability, and model capacity for industry leading cloud-based CFD modeling.

Concord, N.H., October 2 , 2024 – Today Applied Math Modeling Inc., a leading provider of data center design optimization software, proudly announces CoolSim 5.2 – the latest version of its advanced cloud-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling software. CoolSim 5.2 continues to set the standard as the industry’s only cloud-based data center design solution, introducing significant improvements in airflow modeling features, ease of use, and model size capabilities.

“We’ve made significant strides in enhancing both the CFD modeling capabilities and processing speed improvements with CoolSim 5.2,” said Paul Bemis, CEO of Applied Math Modeling, “Our users can now efficiently model thermal conditions inside data centers and analyze heat rejection outside the facility, with output reports that are easily shareable via automatically generated hyperlinks, eliminating the need for complex 3D viewers.”

CoolSim 5.2 introduces several new features designed to improve data center thermal analysis including:

  • The addition of a Data Center Dashboard for quickly assessing the overall performance of a data center displaying the popular PUE, RTI, RCI and metrics in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Improved control and fidelity for the CoolSim Variable Fan Drive (VFD) feature improving both solution speed and robustness.
  • Improved post processing features allowing for more precise control of contour plane placement and visibility.
  • Enhancements to the CoolSim automated Report Generation System provide improved speed for loading large complex CFD models allowing for the creation and modeling of ever increasingly large data centers or external flow scenarios.
  • Continued Improvements in the CoolSim Automated Report Generation System allows for higher fidelity output reports that can be shared with others using hyperlinks and viewed on any mobile device.
  • Improved “ease of use” features including new sorting features to allow for the rapid creation and manipulation of design parameters, coupled with advancements in the CoolSim Simulation Facility, allowing for the processing of multiple scenarios with advanced parallel processing.

These enhancements enable users to quickly set up and submit internal and external data center modeling scenarios to the CoolSim HPC (High Performance Computing) system for rapid results. Existing CoolSim users will benefit from faster modeling processes, while new users will appreciate the software's intuitive design and minimal learning curve.

“From the onset, CoolSim was engineered to deliver industry-leading price and performance while ensuring ease of use for users who don’t have time for a steep learning curve,” Bemis added, “CoolSim 5.2 builds on this legacy, adding features that enable rapid modeling of external flow conditions, - a critical factor as data center capabilities grow and heat rejection becomes more concentrated.”

CoolSim remains the most cost effective CFD modeling solution in the market, specifically built as a SaaS (Software as a Service) platform to provide unmatched value. Unlike competitors that require local processing, the CoolSim subscription includes access to a HPC (High Performance Computing) cluster for processing the complex 3D models. This unique approach offers substantial benefits in cost reduction, simulation speed, and superior support.

Upon model completion, high-fidelity HTML output reports, complete with embedded 3D visualizations, are generated and made accessible on any internet-connected device. This enables users to perform multiple “what-if” scenarios, optimizing equipment placement, evaluating new designs, or visualizing the impact of adding new equipment to an existing data center.

Applied Math Announces CoolSim 5.1 - Friday, August 25, 2023

Applied Math Modeling Releases CoolSim 5.1

 Data Center Design Optimization Software

Improvements in Ease of Use, Performance, and Model Size

Concord, N.H., August 25, 2022 Today Applied Math Modeling Inc., a leading provider of data center design optimization software, announced CoolSim 5.1 – the next revision of the company’s popular modeling software. As the industry’s only cloud-based solution, CoolSim 5.1 continues to add important airflow modeling features for data center design optimization.

“We continue to add both CFD modeling capability and speed improvements with the release of CoolSim 5.1,” said Paul Bemis, CEO of Applied Math Modeling, “Using CoolSim 5.1, users are now able to model larger more complex designs than ever before. And the resulting CFD output reports can be easily shared with any user via automatically generated hyperlinks. There is no longer a need to download and install 3D viewers to analyze complex flow conditions”.

CoolSim 5.1 adds an array of new features including:

  • Improved speed for loading large complex CFD models allowing for the creation and modeling of ever increasingly large data centers or external flow models.
  • Continued Improvements in the CoolSim Automated Report Generation System allows for higher fidelity output reports that can be shared with shared with others using hyperlinks and viewed on any mobile device.
  • Improved “ease of use” features including new sorting features to allow for the rapid creation and manipulation of design parameters.
  • Continued Improvements to the CoolSim Simulation Facility enable processing of multiple simulations using advanced parallel processing technology.

These new features allow users to rapidly set up both internal and external data center modeling scenarios and submit them to the CoolSim HPC computing system for quick turn-around. Existing CoolSim users will find these new features speed up the modeling process, while new CoolSim users will find the learning curve for CoolSim to be minimal.

“CoolSim was designed from the beginning to deliver industry leading price and performance while providing outstanding ease of use for users that don’t have the time to climb a steep learning curve,” said Bemis, “CoolSim 5.1 continues this tradition by adding features to allow for the rapid modeling of external flow conditions that are becoming more important as the capacity of data centers increases, along with the concentration of externally rejected heat. In certain wind conditions, the exhaust from one generator or heat exchanger can be entrained into the intake of another, greatly reducing its relative cooling capacity.”

CoolSim is the most cost effective CFD modeling solution in the market and was built specifically as a SaaS (Software as a Service) solution to provide users with industry leading value. Unlike its competitors that process simulations locally, the CoolSim subscription includes access to a HPC (High Performance Computing) cluster for processing the complex 3D models. This unique approach allows unprecedented benefits in cost reduction, simulation speed, and superior support.

Once built, the model is automatically submitted to a hosted high-performance computing (HPC) cluster for processing using ANSYS®/FLUENT (CFD) technology. After the simulation is complete, high fidelity HTML output reports with embedded 3D visual images are produced and delivered to the user to view locally, and/or hosted on a webserver for viewing from any internet connected device. This mechanism allows users to perform multiple “what-if” studies of their data centers to determine the optimal placement of existing equipment, evaluate new or alternative designs, or visualize the effect of adding new equipment to an existing data center.

Industry’s Only SaaS Model

Applied Math Modeling continues to reduce total cost-of-ownership (TCO) for customers by delivering CoolSim using a hosted Software as a Service (SaaS) model that includes the software and the computational capacity to perform the complex CFD calculations.

“No longer do users have to pay the high annual license fees or invest in expensive local computer servers to use a CFD based data center modeling tool,” Bemis said, “With CoolSim, users can leverage the same technology used in the aerospace and automotive markets at a fraction of the cost of ‘local processing only’ solutions.”

By using the CoolSim 5.1 subscription model, occasional users can select a usage plan that meets their specific usage needs.
